Food
Every species on our planet has a diet it is designed to thrive on. Humans are no different. When we eat the diet for which we are biologically designed, and follow the other laws of nature that govern how things work, glowing health is our inevitable result.
What is a natural diet for the human species? It is the diet provided for us in our natural tropical environment, a diet comprised of the naturally occurring foods that we would be most attracted to, would fin
d most delicious, and would best meet our nutritional needs. It is a diet very similar to our closest relatives in the animal world, since all similar species consume similar diets.
This diet, our natural diet, consists of fresh, ripe, raw, whole, organic plant foods. These are the foods nature provides for us, and these are the foods that make up the diet of our closest animal relatives, specifically the bonobo monkey who shares most of our DNA and our exact digestive system, and eats a diet of mostly raw fruit and some leafy greens. When humans eat this fresh raw plant diet, devoid of animal or grain products, we thrive. Degenerative disease is avoided and our bodies work the way they’re supposed to. That’s pretty strong evidence!
Once you realize that a raw plant diet is the way to go, there is more learning to do.
Unfortunately there is great confusion in the modern raw food movement, and many different versions of a raw diet are being presented as healthy. What’s known is that humans’ primary fuel source is simple carbohydrate, or glucose. This is what feeds all of the trillions of cells in our body. The best, most direct and easily digested source of this fuel is fresh, ripe, raw sweet fruit. Fruit is the staple of the healthiest raw diet. Leafy greens play an important secondary role as a superior source of minerals, and fatty foods such as avocados, nuts, and seeds play a less important role and should in fact be strictly limited, so that total dietary fat is kept to less than ten percent of our total caloric intake.
If we ate just fruits and vegetables, and did not consume any nuts or seeds, our dietary fat would fall between 3 and 9 percent, a perfectly healthy ratio!
Today’s typical raw food diet centers around greens and fats, instead of around fruit, and therefore tends to contain dangerously high levels of fat, and sometimes insufficient calories (greens and vegetables do not contain nearly as many calories as sweet fruit). This leads to many pitfalls and health problems, and this version of a raw diet inevitably becomes unsustainable in the long run.
The healthy, sustainable, high-energy way to go is to adopt a fruit-based, low-fat raw plant diet. A simple, whole-foods diet that does not include irritants such as salt, vinegar, cacao, garlic, onion, or spices. A fresh diet that does not rely on dehydrated or processed foods. A deliciously sweet, satiating diet that is simple to prepare and easy to digest.
